Geology:
Western margin of
greenstone belt at contact with Sabaskong Batholith. Contact between relatively massive batholith rocks
and well foliated metavolcanics strikes 40
to 50 degrees and dips sub-vertically to 70 degrees east. Adjacent
to batholith, package of massive to pillowed metabasalts
up
to 1000 m thick; occasionally exhibits poorly
developed variolitic texture.
|
Mineralization:
Fine to occasionally
coarse native gold, one to two percent fine pyrite, lesser chalcopyrite
often coated by covellite, and minute quantities of bornite, molybdenite
and native copper. Hematite and limonite total one to two percent of
veins as stain and vug coatings. Black hematite crystals
observed at one location. Trace tourmaline in vein float . A pinkish-white mineral
weathering product (?) or a variety of potassium feldspar (?) encountered
with some regularity along fractures and walls of sealed fissures. Gold
most abundant near and along vein walls, in and around vuggy portions of
the veins, and in areas exhibiting some degree of structural complexity or strong
iron staining. Seems to be little if any correlation between local
sulphide abundance and gold content.

Work:
1983 to 1985:
base metals exploration. Magnetometer,
VLF-EM, geological, and bedrock geochemistry surveys , and
follow-up horizontal loop (EM) work and overburden stripping (Agassiz Resources)
1989: magnetometer and VLF-EM geophysical surveys,
geological mapping on a 52.3 kilometre cut grid; stripping and sampling (Western Troy Capital Resources)
1991: follow-up prospecting and geophysical anomaly
(Western Troy Capital Resources)
1992-1996: a bulk sample from veins
|
Results:
346 ounces Au extracted from
~1000 tons of quartz vein material yielding a recovered
grade of 0.346 ounces gold per ton. Majority Au was free milling
with about 0.1 ounces Au per ton lost to the tailings.
